In II Timothy 1:5, Paul mentions a sincere faith that he noticed in Timothy. He also mentions that this sincere faith started with his grandmother (Lois) and continued on in his mother (Eunice). Although Timothy had to commit to Jesus Christ on his own, he had a wonderful godly heritage that pointed him in the right direction.

As I consider the life of Mrs. Sophie Haken, I feel a little bit like Timothy. For forty years, she and her husband Bill faithfully served children, teens and adults at Mt. Lou San. Many trusted Christ and committed their lives to obey God’s Word under their influence.  Nearly every week, someone comes to the camp property and shares a memory of how the Hakens challenged and encouraged them to follow Christ.  In 2012, the camp is still reaping blessings from Bill and Sophie’s faithfulness.

Even though Sophie helped start a wonderful legacy, we must stay faithful and true to proclaim God’s truth and conduct business with integrity and godly principles. Just because we bear the name Mt. Lou San Bible Camp does not mean it happens automatically. In the same way that Bill and Sophie read their Bibles, prayed, obeyed, and committed themselves daily to the cause of reaching people for Christ, the leadership of Mt. Lou San must do the same.
