Camp Conference in Louisiana

From Director Philip Drake
Camp News #001

As camp workers, we often get the question, “What do you guys do the rest of the year?”  Believe it or not, the answer to that question has many different answers. One of those answers is that we try to advance ourselves professionally. Every other February, our staff attends a camp conference called Tweakage. This year, our travels took us to Ringgold, Louisiana to Southland Camp as our staff joined around 200 other Christian camp workers from the United States, and even a few from other countries.

Talk about getting a recharge!  Wow, what a blessing to be with all these camp folks, learning about many new and creative ways to share the gospel and to have fun while doing it. Below is a picture of a plaque I received whose home is now on the wall directly above my computer for me to see every day. Receiving this reminder was truly an encouragement to my soul and a challenge for the camp ministry to continue. We help churches do these things as their people come to our property for events:

1.      Worship – this happens through exposure to creation and spiritual gatherings

2.      Fellowship – this happens as campers get away from their phones and spend time with each other

3.      Discipleship – this happens as the Word is taught, as relationships are built, and decisions are followed up on

Those 3 things are why Mt. Lou San exists and all our efforts should be to help local churches accomplish these things. So just in case you were wondering what’s been keeping us busy “the rest of the year,” now you know that we are busy working to make this place a useful tool for the local church as we partner together.
